Introduction
Wildfire events create rare, large-scale conditions for advancing scientific understanding of ecosystem dynamics, agricultural systems, and coupled human–natural responses under extreme fire and climate events. These conditions advance field-based investigation at spatial and temporal scales that cannot be replicated under controlled or experimental conditions.
At the same time, wildfire impacts place significant demands on producers, their families, and their communities. Research conducted in these settings need to be coordinated, efficient, and respectful of ongoing recovery efforts.
The University of Nebraska is organizing and aligning research activity across Nebraska. Participation in this post-wildfire research network is open and is not restricted—researchers, students, and partners are actively conducting work across affected areas. The role of the network is to improve coordination across these efforts, reduce unnecessary duplication, and strengthen the collective scientific and applied value of research conducted following wildfire.
